Pride is not just a sin; it is the essence of sin. It is what caused Satan to fall, what led Adam and Eve to rebel, and what keeps people from bowing before God today. When we elevate ourselves as the standard, we make ourselves the god of our own world. But the Bible warns that ‘God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble’ (James 4:6). Until we humble ourselves before God, we cannot truly see our need for His grace.

The self-righteous person truly believes they are right and cannot see their need for cleansing. They compare themselves to others instead of God’s standard. But what does God see? The reality is, if we are trusting in our own goodness, we are rejecting God’s righteousness. Only the blood of Jesus can cleanse us from our sin.

The way we treat our parents is a reflection of our relationship with God—honoring them is honoring Him, but dishonoring them reveals a rebellious heart.

Agur’s prayer is striking in its simplicity. He doesn’t come to God with a long list of wants—just two requests that shape his entire outlook on life.

Man’s prideful self-reliance often leads them to trust their own instincts instead of humbly seeking God’s wisdom. Because God’s word is pure, we can trust what is say about living a good life.

A righteous life is the best life to live because the righteous will be bold as a lion. The righteous will live with lionlike confidence in the face of danger. Being right with God, and living right before men produces a bold confident life.

Why is boasting about tomorrow and boasting about myself useless? Because tomorrow is uncertain and we are a poor judge of our character. We are tempted to overestimate our longevity and character. Treat today like it is the last, knowing that God sees the our labour.
